Open Days at the Brass Mill
An ancient watermill on the River Avon in the village of Saltford, used as a brass battery and rolling mill producing kettles and pans, and sheet brass from 1725-1925. The only survivor, still with a furnace and working water wheel, of a group of eighteenth century mills making copper and brass goods in the Avon Valley between Bristol and Bath.
The mill features a replica hammer and turntable, an exhibition showing the history of the local brass industry and models demonstrating different types of water wheel. It is the only such mill in existence with so much left intact. All welcome.
